About the Athenaeum Theatre

For more detailed information about the Athenaeum Theatre, visit www.AthenaeumTheatre.org.

A unique performance complex, the Athenaeum Theatre opened in 1911 as part of the campus of St. Alphonsus Catholic Church. Conceived as a “neighborhood playhouse,” by the original German-American parish, the Athenaeum Theatre is a historic building and the oldest continuously operating off-Loop theater in Chicago.

The World Comedy Championship matches will be held in the Athenaeum’s main stage theatre, seating 984 people. Adjacent to it is The Curtain Call Club, a lounge serving cocktails and snacks.

The Athenaeum Theatre is located at the intersection of Lincoln, Southport and Wellington Avenues. Parking is available in lots adjacent to the theatre. The CTA #11 Lincoln bus stops across the street from the theatre. The nearest “L” station is the Brown Line station at Wellington Ave, ½ mile east of the theatre.
